Mango Languages is a user friendly online learning service that teaches practical conversation skills for a wide range of languages. Mango offers English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. Mango Languages is free for patrons of thousands of libraries including the Bruce County Public Library and the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public library. Pathways is a FREE Employment Preparation program offered by Georgian College at the Owen Sound Campus. The Pathways curriculum is designed to assist individuals exploring the possibility of going back to school or students who need to develop employment skills. The goal of the Pathways program is
to help students to find the confidence and skills needed to become more employable. The course is held two days per week for eight weeks making it a comfortable setting for students to ease into an academic environment. The program is divided into three areas: Professional Development, Computer Skills, and
Workplace Math. This opportunity is available to individuals that are 19 years or older and who meet eligibility requirements. The spring session of Pathways starts May 4 and ends June 24, 2015. Comic books can be a useful addition to your ESL learning. Reading comic books can help you to improve your English vocabulary, writing and knowledge about culture. Reading comic books is a FUN way to learn English!! On Saturday May 2 the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library and the TOM Thomson Art Gallery are having a FREE Comic Book Day. You can pick up your free comic book in the Youth Services Department of the library. A number of comic book focused events will be taking place at the library on May 2. Georgian College is hosting an open house on Saturday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. An open house is a day when members of the public, potential students and their friends and family, are invited to visit. Georgian College is a College of Applied Arts and Technology. The College has seven campus sites to choose from (Barrie, Midland, Muskoka, Orangeville, Orillia, Owen Sound and South Georgian Bay). The open house is taking place at all 7 campuses. Each location is offering tours of their facilities during the event. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions about housing, the application process, books, financial aid, awards and scholarships.
