Family Day is Mon Feb 16, 2015 in Ontario. This holiday celebrates the significance of families and family time. Many businesses are closed on this day. If you live in a home with a fuel fired appliance or an attached garage you will be required to install a Carbon Monoxide alarm by April 15, 2015. The Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Service is giving Carbon Monoxide alarms to families in the City of Owen Sound that are in need of an alarm and do not have the money available to purchase one. The Carbon Monoxide alarms were donated by the Scenic City Lions.

The Great Annual Library Book Sale
Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library’s Great Annual Library Book Sale is being held from Tuesday, November 4 to Sunday, November 9. Purchasing books at the sale is an inexpensive way to purchase gifts or to stock your own bookshelf. Money raised from the book sale is used to support library programs and services. Kidsport – helps kids to participate in organized sport, funding of up to $300/year/child for sport registration and/or equipment
Minor Hockey Foundation Ontario– one-time financial subsidy to each participant towards minor hockey registration fees for a hockey season children aged 7 – 11 years old
National Child Benefit Subsidy -offer subsidies for children’s registration fees for recreational activities for families residing in Grey Bruce County and earning less than $40,000
NHLPA – Goals & Dreams – providing equipment to programs and organizations that help children and families get involved with hockey
With a cold winter on the way, the need for warm winter clothing is great. Fall is the perfect time to tidy your coat closet before winter arrives! Volunteers in Grey Bruce have organized coat drives to collect quality snow pants, hats, mitts, and boots to give away to anyone that needs them. On October 18, 2014 from 8:30am to 1 pm, Coats 4 Kids is giving away warm winter apparel, to families at the Masonic Hall (behind Shoppers Drug Mart) The group is still accepting used winter items. Contact Marg Kerr at 519-364-3768 for more information. Grey Bruce Winter Coat Drive is presently accepting donations of gently used winter outerwear. Donations can be dropped off at Douglas Cleaners in Owen Sound. Clothing can be picked up at Douglas Cleaners after the Owen Sound Santa Claus Parade, on Saturday Nov 15, 2014. After this date, articles can be picked up at the United Way in Owen Sound.
The Wave dental clinic is located at George Brown College in Toronto, ON. The clinic permits dental students to gain experience treating patients, while providing dental care to the public at a reduced cost. The students offer low-cost cleanings, restorations, x-rays and denture services. Patients who do not speak English are encouraged to bring a friend or family member to each appointment to translate information.
