Join the Bibles for Missions Thrift Store Wed June 17-19 from 3-7 pm to shop for some fantastic deals. The store is located in Owen Sound beside Kia and across from Walmart at 1698 18th Ave E, Owen Sound ON. The Bibles for Mission Thrift Store sells high quality donated goods such as clothing, housewares, books, furniture, and TVs. This provides the community with a way of recycling items that they no longer use. Some of the items being offered at the sale are bags of books for $1.00, bags of clothing for $2.00 and small appliances for $5.00. A bargain hunters dream! Georgian College is hosting an open house on Saturday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. An open house is a day when members of the public, potential students and their friends and family, are invited to visit. Georgian College is a College of Applied Arts and Technology. The College has seven campus sites to choose from (Barrie, Midland, Muskoka, Orangeville, Orillia, Owen Sound and South Georgian Bay). The open house is taking place at all 7 campuses. Each location is offering tours of their facilities during the event. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions about housing, the application process, books, financial aid, awards and scholarships. The Festival of Northern Lights is a beautiful presentation of Christmas lights near the Sydenham River in Owen Sound. The event takes place for six weeks from November 14 until January 4th. Come and take a stroll, or even a horse-drawn carriage ride and see the more than 25 kilometers of colourful light displays. This is the 27th season for this wonderful holiday event! With a cold winter on the way, the need for warm winter clothing is great. Fall is the perfect time to tidy your coat closet before winter arrives! Volunteers in Grey Bruce have organized coat drives to collect quality snow pants, hats, mitts, and boots to give away to anyone that needs them. On October 18, 2014 from 8:30am to 1 pm, Coats 4 Kids is giving away warm winter apparel, to families at the Masonic Hall (behind Shoppers Drug Mart) The group is still accepting used winter items. Donations can be dropped off at Douglas Cleaners in Owen Sound. Clothing can be picked up at Douglas Cleaners after the Owen Sound Santa Claus Parade, on Saturday Nov 15, 2014. After this date, articles can be picked up at the United Way in Owen Sound.
Skilled trades are jobs that are done with your hands such as construction, plumbing, and welding. The Owen Sound Georgian College Campus offers one and two-year full-time programs that train people to become skilled trades workers. The College is hosting a Trades Open House in Owen Sound on Saturday June 14th. College staff will be available at this event to answer questions and to provide information about local job opportunities in the skilled trades.
